Our business in Erkelenz has won the prestigious President’s award in the 2010 Just Care™ awards for their excellent HSE improvements.

Aker Wirth in Erkelenz in Germany won the prize for strengthening significantly the HSE mindset and results while they integrated with Aker Solutions, after the full takeover of Wirth in 2009.
The HSE performance in Erkelenz has improved significantly as a result of new routines and practices in the workshop, where they produce drilling equipment such as mud pumps and drawworks.
“I am very pleased that our colleagues in Germany have received the President’s award, and everyone in Erkelenz and around the world, deserves credit for their efforts to improve the HSE mindset and performance,” says Thor Arne Håverstad, head of Drilling Technologies.
Strong improvement
Lost time injury frequency has dropped from 50 in early 2009 to about seven. Although seven is a relatively high number in Aker Solutions terms, the improvement has been impressive and the figures are still improving.
“This is a great accomplishment, and it is impressive to see that it has occurred in just two years,” says Øyvind Eriksen, executive chairman of Aker Solutions.
A stable, highly competent and motivated workforce made this transformation possible and our business in Erkelenz has proved that an HSE culture and track record can be improved over a short time period by increasing HSE awareness, building a team commitment towards HSE and applying Aker Solutions HSE programmes.
Christoph Kleuters, who heads up Aker Solutions in Erkelenz, said: “I am proud that our organisation has been recognised in Aker Solutions for our commitment and results. We will continue to work hard to improve further, and I am sure will do everything we can to make the results improve further”.
