Aker Solutions has a broad experience in the design, project execution, construction and installation of semisubmersible production platforms. Our experience spans from engineering and construction of the hull to the process facilities, risers and mooring systems, installation, hookup and commissioning.
Strong track record
Aker Solutions played a central role in the development of the Veslefrikk field in the North Sea, operated by Statoil. The field was the first development off Norway to use a semi-submersible production platform, called Veslefrikk B, which is still in operation.
In the early 90s, Aker Solutions was responsible for the complete semisubmersible drilling and production platform Njord, from front-end design through to EPC. Around the turn of the century, Aker Solutions carried out the full EPC of the Snorre B semisubmersible production, drilling and quarters platform.
In 2001/2003 came a significant breakthrough for Aker Solutions’ design for production platforms, with the front-end engineering design (FEED) for two semisubmersible production platforms in the Campos basin off Brazil, the P-51 (Marlim Sul) and P-52 (Roncador), operating at 1255m and 1800m water depths respectively. This design has since been licensed for a third platform, the P-56.
Proven designs
In 2005, we delivered the Kristin platform in the North Sea, and two years later, Blind Faith to the Gulf of Mexico. In 2010, Gjøa is delivered for operation in the North Sea, while Aker Solutions is a key subcontractor for the offshore facilities front end engineering and design (FEED) contract for the Ichthys Project off northwestern Australia designing the hulls for the semisubmersible Central Processing Facility (CPF) and Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) for condensate treatment and storage.
Holistic view
Aker Solutions has an understanding of totality that provides a holistic view of flow assurance in a project, including impact on subsea and riser system designs, impact on topside designs, installation, operations and reliability.
Marine technology
Aker Solutions core competencies for hull design include stability analyses, mooring design and analyses motion and airgap analyses, coupled analyses, wave loads on fixed structures, wave and response statistics, run-up and slamming loads, model testing and higher order hydrodynamics. We have extensive experience in model test specification, model test follow-up, data analyses and correlation work.
Strong process competence
With industry focus on subsea-to-beach developments, deeper water, harsh environments, and tie-backs, flow assurance solutions are becoming more and more advanced. Aker Solutions has expertise to meet the challenges in the areas of multiphase flow expertise, flowline/pipeline sizing, hydrates, wax , liquid control and corrosion control.
Open dialogue
Through an open dialogue with the client, Aker Solutions develops conceptual design of topsides for offshore oil and gas facilities. Through our engineering and construction capabilities, we develop compact topside solutions. Ongoing work includes a novel configuration with modular racks containing process equipment, access to equipment from mobile deck supported in overhead gantry crane and tools for remote inspection.
Multidiscipline expertise
Aker Solutions has the relevant expertise and experience to develop topside facility design in accordance to the client’s wishes. Multidiscipline experience combined with expertise in process, safety, layout, structure, operations, regularity, weight, cost, schedule and construction gives Aker Solutions the required understanding of totality.
We are actively developing technology solutions through in-house development projects and participation in Joint Industry Projects (JIPs).
