Aker Solutions invented the first rotary vane steering gear in 1933. Since then it has gone on to successfully deliver world class steering gear to all types of ships on every ocean.
Aker Solutions' steering gear business is located in the city of Porsgrunn on the southeast coast of Norway. Porsgrunn is today an industrial centre in Norway, but was founded on shipping, shipbuilding and the export of timber and ice.
Porsgrunn steering gear™ traces its origins from a local shipyard that dates back to the 1850s. Today Aker Solutions' steering gear business is a specialised technology provider, totally focusing on rotary vane steering gear solutions and with a highly-specialised staff that has unmatched experience in the engineering, operation and maintenance of our steering gear.
Today all mechanical production is subcontracted to well-qualified sub-suppliers, letting us focusing on engineering and product development.
