Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Company (ADMA-OPCO), operates the Umm Shaif field, situated offshore in the Abu Dhabi sector of the Persian Gulf. The processing facilities are located at Umm Shaif Super Complex.
The Umm Shaif gas injection facilities project comprising the construction of three new platforms aimed to enhance oil production for 2010.
ADMA OPCO awarded the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI). Seven months later HHI signed a contract with Aker Solutions for the engineering and supply of a key item on the CP-1 platform: the gas glycol dehydration package.
Aker Solutions is recognized worIdwide as a leading global provider of engineering and construction services, selected technology products and integrated solutions to the oil and gas sector.
Good customer references build our reputation – and the only way to achieve this is by consistent and predictable performance. The contract with HHI reflects the confidence shaped by repeated successful cooperation and true commitment to our customers.
For the Umm Shaif project, Aker Solutions provided a tailor made unit including full process and mechanical guarantees.
Thinking global - acting local: our close partnership with key sub suppliers is one of our guarantees for our products quality.
To ensure a delivery ‘on time’, ‘on spec’ and at Customer’s satisfaction, Aker Solutions decided to cooperate with Sungjin Geotec, located in Ulsan close to HHI’ offices.
This choice and the permanent supervision of Aker Solutions local area engineers facilitated communication and reduced delivery time.
Upon receipt of the contract award, the nominated Aker Solutions project team started to carry out basic and detailed engineering, as well as procurement from France. Our experienced oil and gas industry engineers mobilized their skills and know-how to provide the best solutions.
Each and every sub contractor document or drawing was reviewed and checked by Aker Solutions project team prior to submission to HHI, to ensure compliance with codes/norms and specific requirements before proceeding to construction.
The gas dehydration unit consists of a high pressure absorber and a glycol regeneration package. For this particular project and to meet the existing platform lay-out and load out constraints, the regeneration package was split into three skids.
The first skid houses the reboiler unit and associated burners, the still and stripping columns and the make-up facilities. The second supports the surge drum, the glycol heat exchangers as well as chemical injection facilities, while the third handles the flash separators, the rich glycol filters and the glycol pumps.
Steel structure, piping and vessels were fabricated by dedicated teams in parallel in two of Sungjin facilities. The assembly of the regeneration units within the skids managed at one location, under the supervision of Aker Solutions inspector.
The steel structure designed to support a load of 500 tons ,weighs 60 tons. It includes all required facilities for safe and proper operation and maintenance of the gas dehydration unit.
Marking, cutting, pre-fabrication and step by step piping is manufactured from inconel material on one side and carbon steel on the other.
To face the challenge of on-time completion, worldwide procurement activity takes place for the 300 meters of various pipes, fittings and the 500 flanges in both Aker Solutions and Sungjin companies.
Stringent specifications due to high corrosion risk, required an on-demand fabrication of steel plates in European mill shops.
The absorber, being the thickest and largest vessel – 114 mm thick and close to four meters diameter, is made of inconel weld-overlaid carbon steel, while regeneration vessels are either made of massive inconel or carbon steel.
The vessels, piping, equipment valves and instruments that were manufactured over the world and moved to the same factory, were assembled under Aker Solutions supervision to constitute the Umm Shaif gas dehydration unit.
After a period of eighteen months of joined efforts, the unit has been installed on the platform.
While the new gas dehydration unit has been delivered, Aker Solutions continue to support their customer with services such as supervision of commissioning and start-up activities.
The Umm Shaif field will increase gas injection rates to 3 000 million standard cubit feet of high pressure gas per day. Gas injection will cause significant increases in oil production for the remaining life of the field. The new facilities will enhance oil production with an average of additional 50 000 bpd by 2010.
Aker Solutions has carried out successfully the gas dehydration unit delivery through trustful and efficient collaboration with HHI and ADMA-OPCO.
