Our offshore wind solutions combine Aker Solutions’ experience in developing and managing large and complex offshore projects with the proven WindFloat® technology from our partner Principle Power.
Aker Solutions has more than 40 years’ experience designing, delivering and servicing semi-submersible drilling and production platforms. Our proven floater designs enable energy production in the world’s most challenging offshore environments.
Principle Power’s innovative WindFloat technology lowers costs and risks related to installation and operations of floating offshore wind turbines.
Our offering covers the entire lifecycle of an offshore wind farm, including planning, installation, commissioning, operations and maintenance services.
WindFloat is a floating foundation for offshore wind turbines with a simple, economic and patented design. The technology allows for wind turbine installation, intervention and maintenance services at quayside, eliminating the need for specialized and expensive offshore vessels. Full-scale testing from 2011 to 2016 showed minimal environmental and ecological impact to the seabed. The WindFloat technology can be applied to various turbine sizes and water depths.
Our feasibility and concept studies focus on environmental and regulatory planning, permits and compliance components of the project development. We partner up with local study providers to ensure full compliance with local laws.
We provide services within overall power system design and field layout, cost modelling, mooring system analysis, safety studies, environmental assessments, power transfer and risk analyses, value improvement and technological readiness evaluations.
Aker Solutions can deliver both dynamic array cables and export cables for offshore wind farms. Our patented designs for dynamic power umbilicals and cables are suitable for a wide range of offshore floating facilities.
Besides management and operations of offshore wind farms, we do maintenance in a broad spectrum of disciplines as part of our systematic Asset Integrity Management.
Our floating and fixed substations can meet a wide range of power requirements and be delivered at favorable cost and weight. In close cooperation with ABB, our alliance partner in subsea power and automation, substations can be customized to customer needs related to installation site, regulation, maintenance strategies, back-up generators, workshops, living quarters or warehouses.
