Our Project team are currently seeking a Commissioning SME (Mechanical) to join the team. The SME will serve as the technical authority leading the commissioning, startup, and operation of Mechanical systems Offshore. This position will be based in our St. John's office with periodic business trips to Ingleside, TX and transition Offshore Newfoundland for the completion of project scope.

What will you be doing?

  • Coordinate and supervise activities associated with commissioning and start up planning and execution activities of the program development.
  • Actively participate in safety reviews, HAZOP, JHA, FLRA, and pre-startup safety checks to verify the integrity and safety of systems.
  • Ensure static and rotating mechanical systems are installed, commissioned, and operational per design and safety standards.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including construction, engineering, operations, other discipline SMEs, and HSE, to deliver high-quality, safe, and timely commissioning processes.
  • Work collaboratively with the Commissioning Manager and client to ensure all necessary commissioning and start up activities are planned and executed in a safe, efficient, and environmentally sound manner.
  • Assuring that the project scope is divided up into systems that are defined in a manner that will support ease of commissioning.
  • Assure that the System Pre-commissioning and/or Commissioning Procedures are developed, approved, and finalized per the planning schedule and include the appropriate content and detail to assure safe and thorough execution.
  • Lead the technical Writers and manage the flow of information to the team and / or Telecom Integrator to enable them to prepare Layouts, Cable Block diagrams, Termination diagrams, Loop Diagrams, Cable list, etc.
  • Ensure the Commissioning execution plan includes the materials, special tools, and vendor support for a safe and efficient execution.
  • Ensure the commissioning staffing plan has the correct number of resources with the appropriate skills to execute the commissioning work.
  • Development, tracking, and adjusting commissioning execution schedule for the discipline.
  • Working with engineering and operations department to promptly find the preferred alternative for alleviating issues discovered during commissioning.
  • Lead the on-site pre-commissioning and/or commissioning activities, including resource management, schedule coordination, materials/tools/vendor support, system/equipment troubleshooting, and adjusting plan due to resource issues.
  • Lead commissioning meetings, providing clear updates on progress, troubleshooting, and key milestones.

We think you should have:

  • Bachelor of Engineering Degree or Engineering Technology diploma and a minimum 10 years of experience in leadership positions or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Commissioning experience in an offshore/onshore industrial facility required.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional environment.
  • Ability to analyze complex issues, make sound decisions, and effectively manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong knowledge of safety standards, commissioning best practices, and relevant industry regulations.
  • Able to develop a project specific system design with all associated documentation.
  • Strong decision-making abilities. Well-developed computer skills in MS Excel and MS Word.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Develop and implement commissioning strategies, procedures, and schedules for mechanical systems, including utilities, process, HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection equipment.
  • Provide expert-level support for the installation, calibration, and optimization of mechanical systems such as pumps, compressors, chillers, boilers, piping networks, and rotating equipment
  • Expertise in mechanical systems such as HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and rotating equipment.
  • Proficiency with commissioning and testing tools, such as flow meters, pressure gauges, vibration analyzers, and thermal imaging equipment.
  • Successful completion of an offshore medical and regulatory training required for Offshore Newfoundland.
